Dr. Sidney C. Bailin is founder and President of Knowledge Evolution, Inc. Before forming KEI, he was a Vice President of Engineering at Computer Technology Associates, where for 12 years he played a leading role in that company's software technology program.

He received his B.A. in mathematics (Summa cum Laude) from Columbia University
in 1974, an M.Sc. in mathematics from Oxford University in 1976, and a D.Phil.
in mathematical logic from Oxford in 1986. Since then he has written roughly
three dozen publications on software engineering and automated reasoning.

His software experience has ranged from the development of production real-time communications systems to R&D in automated reasoning. He has been a leader in the Software Reuse community since the late 1980s, serving several times on the the program committee of the International Conference on Software Reuse.

He has served as a referee for IEEE Computer, the Journal of Symbolic Logic, the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, the Journal of Automated Software Engineering, and Communications of the ACM.

He has also served as a peer reviewer for the National Science Foundation, and as a reviewer of book proposals on software technology for John Wiley and Sons and the IEEE Computer Society Press. He was on the Editorial Board of the revised edition of the Encyclopedia of Software Engineering, published in 2002 by Wiley. In this role he oversaw the areas of Requirements Management and Knowledge-Based Techniques, and supported the area of Software Reuse.

In addition to his computer interests, Sidney is deeply involved in the arts, particularly music and, more recently, film. He began composing at the age of six, learned formal counterpoint at the age of 10, spent four years in his teens at the Juilliard School studying piano and composition, and continues to compose (and occasionally perform) today. In Washington, DC, where he lives, he is a member of the American Composers Forum and a performing member of the Friday Morning Music Club.

Sidney is married to Dr. Heike Bailin, a family physician specializing in patient-friendly weight management.
